CU said on the 23rd that to mark the upcoming samgyeopsal day (Mar. 3), it will discount chilled and frozen meat products for six days from the 26th of this month to the 3rd of next month.
CU will offer a total of five meat products in this year's samgyeopsal day event. Spanish frozen thin-sliced samgyeopsal (800g) will be sold for 10,900 won, and 500g Canadian barley-fed pork samgyeopsal and pork shoulder for 9,900 won. A 300g Korean pork samgyeopsal and pork shoulder aimed at single-person households can be purchased for 6,600 won.
The prices of these products come to 1,980–2,200 won per 100g, which is more than half cheaper than the lowest price of samgyeopsal listed in the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) Chamgagaek daily necessities price information (4,500 won per 100g, as of Jan. 30).
Customers who purchase the event products will also receive a separate giveaway of CJ Four Seasons Ssamjang 170g worth 2,500 won. In addition, during the event period, an extra 33% discount applies when paying with Kakao Pay Money after presenting the membership QR code in the in-house commerce app Pocket CU.
Since 2023, CU has operated Mar. 3 as samgyeopsal day instead of triangle gimbap day. As convenience stores rapidly establish themselves as channels for fresh ingredient purchases, this is a strategic shift that puts meat front and center instead of the signature convenience store item triangle gimbap, reflecting the consumer trend of enjoying meat at home instead of dining out amid high inflation.
