Homeplus Co. will roll out 990-won lunch boxes.
Homeplus Co. said on the 19th it will run a rock-bottom price promotion, selling two Homeple Deli lunch box varieties for 990 won for two days through the 20th.
The products are "Homeple Deli gochujang & soy sauce bulgogi lunch box" and "ham & sausage lunch box," sold at more than 80% off from the regular price of 4,990 won at offline stores nationwide. About 40,000 packs are prepared. To let as many customers as possible buy them, purchases are limited to two per person.
The price is more than about 70% cheaper than not only cup ramen but also typical kimbap. According to the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA), as of December last year, the average price of kimbap in Seoul was 3,723 won. Compared with higher-priced convenience store lunch boxes at 6,000–7,000 won, it is 86% cheaper.
Since 2022, Homeplus Co. has continued to roll out rock-bottom price goods as part of a price stabilization project. The Dangdang fried chicken price has been frozen at 6,990 won for the fourth year. It also sells 990-won triangle kimbap and 3,990-won pasta.
Han A-reum, head of the deli business team at Homeplus Co., said, "We prepared a promotion to sell lunch boxes for 990 won for customers whose expenditures were high during the Lunar New Year holidays, including food costs, fuel costs and New Year's cash gifts for younger relatives," adding, "We hope it will offer at least a small help as people return to daily life under high prices."
