Convenience store 7-Eleven said on Feb. 10 that it carried out a major renewal to mark the first anniversary of launching the "Chakhan Taekbae" service, which debuted last year using convenience store logistics networks. 7-Eleven worked with Lotte Taekbae, a logistics specialist, to build an advanced delivery system.
The Chakhan Taekbae service began in Feb. last year. With a flat-rate policy regardless of weight and distance and a launch "990 won promotion," the number of uses surged 3.5 times within a week of the service start.
Reflecting customer data accumulated over about a year and on-the-ground feedback, 7-Eleven added convenience to the value-for-money strengths of Chakhan Taekbae. It shifted from using existing convenience store logistics vehicles to leveraging Lotte Taekbae's professional parcel system and infrastructure.
In the process, the delivery area was greatly expanded. Previously, deliveries were limited to inland-to-inland and within Jeju, but two-way delivery between inland and Jeju is now available. The service range was also expanded to island and mountainous regions such as Wando County, Jindo County, and Sinan County.
Delivery times also decreased. In the previous system, it took an average of about 4 to 5 days due to store-to-store transfers, but this renewal shortened the delivery period by about 50% to an average of 2 to 3 days (3 days on average for inland-Jeju).
In addition, since Aug. last year, 7-Eleven distributed more than 3,000 units of new integrated scale-type parcel equipment nationwide. This made not only advance reservations through the existing Seven app and partners (such as Bungaejangter and Logi-i) but also on-site drop-offs even more convenient.
To mark the renewal of the Chakhan Taekbae service, 7-Eleven is running a promotion. For the month of Feb., customers who use Chakhan Taekbae through the Seven app, Logi-i, LogisHub, Naver, or who drop off at stores can use it for 1,400 won, one of the lowest prices in the industry. An additional 3,000 won applies for inland-Jeju deliveries.
Koo Hyung-min, parcel manager on 7-Eleven's service products team, said, "This year we focused on enhancing the service through synergy with Lotte Taekbae," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to offer differentiated delivery services and aggressive promotions as a bridge connecting inland, Jeju, and island and mountainous regions."
