KT&G said on the 30th that the cumulative amount used from the KT&G "Sangsang Fund," a social contribution fund created through voluntary participation by employees, has surpassed 50 billion won.
Launched in 2011, the Sangsang Fund is created through a matching grant in which KT&G employees donate a portion of their monthly salaries and the company contributes the same amount. The fund is used to support socially vulnerable groups and address urgent social issues. The total amount disbursed to date is 50.9 billion won.
The Sangsang Fund operates through mechanisms such as donation petitions, where employees directly identify cases in welfare blind spots and provide support, and a donation market, where employees choose recipients from submitted cases. This month, eight fundraising drives are underway, including support for kerosene and coal briquettes for people with disabilities and essential goods and meals for seniors in vulnerable groups.
The Sangsang Fund Fund Management Committee is carrying out a variety of support programs using donations, including medical and educational aid and housing improvements for marginalized groups that struggle to receive assistance from welfare agencies, as well as support for seniors and people with disabilities and year-end sharing initiatives.
In addition, last year the fund was used for environmental protection at home and abroad, including 500 million won in disaster relief for wildfire damage in the Yeongnam region such as Uiseong and Andong in North Gyeongsang Province, and 310 million won to help restore areas affected by wildfires in Kazakhstan.
