The Coupang labor union, made up of directly hired delivery drivers (Coupang Friends), on the 22nd urged the government to conduct a reasonable and fair investigation.
The Coupang union said in a statement that while countless corporations, including large corporations, have suffered personal data leaks, it is hard to find a case where such an all-around and overlapping investigation has been conducted as with Coupang.
The union said that the company's mistakes must clearly be corrected, but in the process, the countless workers who have built the company and the small business owners who make a living through Coupang must not be sacrificed.
The union argued that while thorough investigation into the personal data leak and implementation of corrective measures are the responsibilities of government agencies and the company, it is unusual for more than 10 government agencies to conduct simultaneous investigations that go beyond data leakage and cover the company's overall operations.
The union said that it has no intention of shielding the company's personal data leak or downplaying responsibility, but added that the situation must be avoided where excessive sanctions beyond the scope of personal data protection responsibility deal a severe blow to company operations, resulting in the loss of jobs for on-site delivery and logistics center workers, blocking sales channels for countless small business owners, and threatening the livelihoods of tens of thousands of families.
It added that workers on the ground are already feeling a decline in delivery volume, and this is not simply an individual employment issue but one directly tied to the livelihoods of entire families, and earnestly hoped for careful and balanced judgment from various angles, as the government's judgment and decisions directly affect not only corporations but also the lives of countless front-line workers.
