Starbucks Korea said on the 7th that, as the number of tourists visiting Jeju grows every year, it is strengthening the operation of stores and specialized menus available only in the Jeju region.
Starbucks' Jeju stores reflect Jeju's distinctive emotional design elements, such as basalt, Bijarim, and natural scenery seen through floor-to-ceiling windows, which is the biggest feature that sets them apart from standard stores.
The most recent opening in Jeju, the Grand Josun Jeju store on Dec. 26 last year, is located on the rooftop of the Grand Josun Jeju hotel and was designed as a space to relax while looking out at the Jeju sea, away from the noise of everyday life. With the concept of a space to stay with books, it collaborated with Wisdom House to curate books that both adults and children can enjoy, displaying them throughout the store.
The Grand Josun Jeju store is also the first in the Jeju region where customers can enjoy "Byeoldabang Lager" beer, as well as three core cocktails: "Pink Grapefruit Rum Tonic," "Passion Tea Cosmopolitan," and "Purple Mango Dragon Fruit Piña Colada."
Starbucks also said that stores such as the Seongsan Ilchulbong store near Seongsan Ilchulbong, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site; the Jeju Halla Arboretum DT store and the Jeju Seogwipo Topyeong DT store, both situated along the lush forest path at the entrance of Halla Arboretum; and the Jeju Geumak DT store are continuing to draw visitors.
Meanwhile, since 2016 Starbucks has been introducing Jeju region–specialty menus. Over the past 10 years, Jeju-specialty beverages have reached a cumulative 9 million cups sold.
The best-selling Jeju-specialty beverage last year was "Jeju Tangerine Blended." Capturing the freshness of Jeju with hallabong and cheonhyehyang, the drink was well received by many customers, and its points of sale were expanded during the summer season to tourist-commercial districts in Seoul and airport stores.
Currently, Starbucks offers seven beverages as Jeju-specialty items, including "Jeju Tangerine Blended," "Jeju Mugwort Rice Cake Cream Frappuccino," and "Jeju Black Cream Frappuccino," along with three foods: "Jeju Green Tea Fresh Cream Roll," "Jeju Peanut Fresh Cream Roll," and "Jeju Oreum Chocolate Set."
