Convenience store 7-Eleven said on Jan. 4 it released two meal-replacement ready-to-eat products, "Maeil Hanki Protein Shake."
Maeil Hanki Protein Shake comes in a pouch format and can be stored at room temperature, making it easy to buy in bulk and keep on hand. Its size and weight are manageable, so it was designed for easy consumption before or after workouts or on a busy morning commute.
The products come in two flavors that are popular with consumers. "Maeil Hanki Protein Shake Choco" increases the Kakao content to bring out a rich chocolate flavor while keeping sugars low at 2g. "Maeil Hanki Protein Shake Grain" uses 10 grains, including brown rice and soybeans, to emphasize a nutty taste, and contains 1g of sugars.
Both products contain 20g of protein per pack and blend animal and plant proteins in a 3-to-7 ratio to minimize the fishy taste typical of protein. To address the drawbacks of conventional liquid shakes, they contain 10% "protein crunch balls" to add a crispy texture and increase satiety.
To mark the launch, 7-Eleven will run a 2+1 giveaway promotion on the two Maeil Hanki Protein Shake products throughout January. 7-Eleven PB team merchandiser Choi Yoon-jeong said, "As the convenience store protein food market evolves beyond simple ingredient competition to taste and format, we will continue to roll out differentiated products that match the trend."
