CU, the convenience store operated by BGF Retail, said on the 21st it will expand its "ultra-low-price bread" Old Bakery series.
After introducing 1,000-won range red bean bread, sweet green pea paste bread, and streusel bread under the Old Bakery series starting on the 1st of last month, it plans to release sausage bread on the 24th and butter cream bread next month. The Old Bakery lineup introduced so far is all priced at 1,500 won, the lowest among all bread products currently sold at CU. Sausage bread is scheduled to launch at 1,700 won.
CU said it decided to roll out additional items after the three previously released Old Bakery products all settled into the top 10 in sales among CU's differentiated breads, gaining popularity. CU also noted it will strengthen its value-for-money bread line to help stabilize year-end and New Year prices and drive store sales. A BGF Retail official said, "We will continue to launch differentiated products that combine reasonable prices with quality."
