Coupang has streamlined the cancellation steps for its paid Wow membership.
According to the retail industry on the 12th, Coupang on this day cut the membership cancellation process for Wow members in the Coupang app to two steps. From the My Coupang menu, go to Settings, select Wow membership, then just tap Cancel and Complete cancellation request to finish the process.
Previously, on the Cancel page, users had to go through multiple screens discouraging withdrawal, such as Stop receiving Wow-only benefits, Give up Wow-only coupons, and Survey, but with this measure, the process has become the simplest even compared with peers such as Naver and Kurly.
This change is seen as a follow-up measure in response to criticism from government authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission. Earlier, authorities said Coupang's cancellation process was excessively complicated and called for improvements. In response, Coupang reduced the account deletion steps from six to four, and this time also minimized the membership cancellation procedure.
Currently, if there is no usage history for the Coupang Wow membership, it can be canceled and refunded immediately regardless of the usage period. However, for Coupang Play's Sports Pass, users must cancel the subscription separately in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
