SPC Group said on the 11th it will build a "safety smart new plant" in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province. The move follows the "SPC Change and Innovation Task Force," launched in July, recommending to the group presidents' council "SPC Committee" that a new plant be built to strengthen industrial safety.
SPC Group on the day signed an "investment MOU for creating a safety smart plant" with North Chungcheong Province and Eumseong County at the North Chungcheong Provincial Office. Attending the signing were North Chungcheong Governor Kim Young-hwan, Eumseong County Chief Cho Byung-ok, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Lim Ho-seon (Jeungpyeong, Jincheon, Eumseong in North Chungcheong), SPC Group Vice Chairman Hur Jin-soo, and SPC Group President Do Se-ho.
The safety smart new plant is an innovative production facility that puts worker safety first and applies advanced technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), automated robots, and IoT sensors. SPC Group plans to invest 300 billion won in the site.
SPC Group has secured a 182,866-square-meter (about 55,300-pyeong) site within Eumseong Human Smart Valley to build a group integrated production center that will produce bread and confectionery. It is 2.5 times larger than the SPL site, SPC Group's flagship production facility, and upon completion is expected to be the group's largest plant. Groundbreaking is slated for 2026 with completion targeted for 2028.
In particular, Eumseong County in North Chungcheong borders the southern Gyeonggi region, making it close to the Seoul metropolitan area, and is cited as a place that connects well with SPC Group's production and logistics infrastructure. SPC Group said local governments are also implementing proactive support policies for corporations, making it the optimal location.
SPC Group plans to distribute production volume from existing plants to the new plant to enhance safety across the group's entire production system. SPC Group Vice Chairman Hur Jin-soo said, "Building a safety smart plant is an important turning point to realize SPC Group's change, innovation, and safety-centered management," adding, "We will build a plant with the highest level of safety systems to earn the trust of employees, customers, and various stakeholders. We will also contribute to local community development and grow together."
