GS Retail employees are moving to form a labor union. It would be the first unified union since the merger with GS Home Shopping.
On the 11th, according to related industries, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions recently approved the affiliation of the "GS Retail branch" under the National Labor Equality Union.
There is speculation that workforce restructuring, dissatisfaction with the personnel system, and pressure to cut expense contributed to the push to form a union.
GS Retail is said to be proceeding with restructuring due to deteriorating results, including recently offering voluntary retirement to those age 46 and older with at least 20 years of service.
If a GS Retail union is formed, all three major convenience store operators (BGF Retail, Korea Seven) except Emart24 will have unions.
