Otoki Food Safety Science Research Institute said on the 10th that its "Microbiology Laboratory" earned certification as an "excellent safety management laboratory" from the Ministry of Science and ICT in December this year.
The "excellent safety management laboratory certification system" is a program introduced by the Ministry of Science and ICT to strengthen safety management capabilities in laboratories at domestic universities and research institutions and to identify and spread standard models.
Certification is granted to laboratories with outstanding safety management levels and activities after on-site evaluations in three areas—▲ laboratory safety environment systems ▲ activity levels ▲ safety awareness of safety management personnel—and deliberation by experts from industry, academia, and research institutions.
Otoki Food Safety Science Research Institute noted that, to strengthen laboratory safety management, it has established safety environment operating policies and overhauled systems, among other ongoing safety management activities. With the "Microbiology Laboratory" earning excellent safety management laboratory certification this time, the institute's safety management capabilities have been officially recognized.
Kim Jin-hyeon, head of Otoki Food Safety Science Research Institute, said, "This certification is the result of all researchers working together to ensure a safe research environment," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our food safety research capabilities by advancing research safety infrastructure and expanding the application of best safety practices."
