Samyang Foods said on the 4th that it received the $900 million Export Tower, the first in the food industry, and won the Brand Tower for the Samyang brand at the ceremony marking the 62nd Trade Day held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Vice Chairman Kim Jung-soo of Samyang Foods received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for contributions to boosting exports and elevating the status of K-food.
The Export Tower is an award given to corporations that contributed to increasing exports, selected based on export performance for one year from July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current year. Samyang Foods achieved $970 million in exports during the period. It is a result achieved one year after winning the $700 million Export Tower last year. During the same period, the Samyang brand recorded $24 million in exports and won the Brand Tower.
Samyang Foods is sustaining export growth by strengthening its overseas business base—establishing sales subsidiaries in key global hubs and expanding production plants—led by its flagship export item Buldak spicy ramyeon, while expanding its portfolio with Samyang and Tangle. The company said it is currently present in about 100 countries, with overseas sales accounting for 80%.
The vice chairman received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit that day. Since 2016, when Buldak spicy ramyeon began gaining popularity on social media, Kim has led overseas expansion, focusing on increasing export destinations and local sales networks. Through these efforts, Samyang Foods was transformed into an export-driven corporation and the Buldak brand was developed into a global mega brand, establishing a key growth engine for exports.
Kim said, "We have steadily strengthened our global capabilities to enhance the competitiveness of K-food and play a bigger role in the global market," adding, "We will do our best to spread Korea's food culture more widely beyond food."
