Lotte Property & Development said on the 4th that it introduced Starlink at Lotte World Tower as the first on-land installation in Korea.
Lotte Property & Development installed Starlink Zones on two sites—the integrated disaster control center on basement level one and the refuge area on the 22nd floor of Lotte World Tower—for a pilot run. It plans to expand the Starlink Zones to the remaining refuge areas and other high-footfall locations within the complex.
The purpose of introducing Starlink is to strengthen Lotte World Tower's disaster response capabilities. In emergencies such as disasters, when a surge in communications overwhelms ground base stations and causes failures, communication between floors and inside and outside the building becomes difficult, hindering initial response.
Starlink's low Earth orbit communication works without ground base stations or submarine cables. Even if the network is lost due to a fire at a ground base station or a mistake during construction, the internet remains connected.
