Coupang issued a public apology over a large-scale personal information leak.
Park Dae-jun, Coupang's chief executive, met with reporters at Government Complex Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 30th and said, "I am very sorry and apologize for causing concern to customers and the public harmed by this situation."
Park said, "We will cooperate as actively as possible with the government (public-private joint investigation team) investigation and do our best so the situation can proceed quickly."
At the same time, an apology under Park's name was posted on Coupang's official website. It also included that the company is reviewing changes to existing data security safeguards and systems to prevent a recurrence.
Park said, "We express regret over Coupang's recent incident that began on June 24 this year," adding, "We sincerely apologize for causing great inconvenience and concern to our customers."
Park said, "Protecting all customer information is Coupang's most important priority," and added, "We take this obligation very seriously and maintain comprehensive data protection and security measures and processes."
He added, "We are currently reviewing what changes we can make to our existing data security safeguards and systems to better protect customer data from such incidents in the future."
