Oriental Brewery Cheongju Plant said on the 25th that it carried out a recycling resource exchange campaign for employees in partnership with the Seowon District Office in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.
Oriental Brewery Cheongju Plant and Seowon District signed a business agreement for the "Jayeonda (Da) Itda Project" in Feb. to create a cleaner Cheongju and practice resource circularity. As part of the agreement, the campaign was organized to inform Cheongju Plant employees of the importance of proper sorting and disposal and to encourage resource-circulation activities.
To allow employees to take part in the campaign easily while at work, the Cheongju Plant installed a used battery exchange booth in the main building and enabled employees to exchange the used batteries they brought for tissues or standard garbage bags. About 40 employees participated that day, and about 2,300 used batteries were collected.
Batteries are essential items in daily life, but if thrown away as regular trash, hazardous chemicals and heavy metals can leak into the environment and cause serious pollution. When mixed with household waste, they also pose a fire risk, so used batteries must be disposed of in dedicated collection bins.
Oriental Brewery Cheongju Plant Manager Lee Cheol-woo said, "The Cheongju Plant is building a close cooperation system with the Seowon District Office to improve the local environment and achieve sustainable development," adding, "We will continue a variety of environmental protection activities so that small actions that can be practiced in everyday life, such as collecting used batteries, can raise environmental awareness."
