Convenience store CU said on the 25th that it will join the delivery app Coupang Eats and launch delivery and pickup services.
CU will begin delivery and pickup services at 1,000 stores in the Seoul area through the grocery and shopping menu within Coupang Eats. After a service stabilization period, it plans to expand the number of operating stores to about 6,000 nationwide in early next month.
When customers select a nearby CU store through the CU-only tab in the grocery and shopping menu within the Coupang Eats app, they can freely purchase about 6,000 convenience store products for delivery or pickup.
A Coupang Eats official said, "We expect that expanding convenience store onboarding will make it even easier for customers to use 'grocery and shopping,'" and added, "We will seek various collaboration measures so that business owners who sell a variety of everyday products—such as local small business owners, self-employed people, and convenience store owners—can secure customers through shopping services on Coupang Eats that can expand their sales channels."
Jeong Hwan, head of online commerce at BGF Retail, said, "We have entered into a new partnership with a delivery platform so customers can purchase CU's wide range of products faster and more conveniently," and added, "Going forward, CU will secure quick commerce competitiveness with differentiated strategies that maximize synergy with delivery platforms and will strive to gain an edge in a rapidly changing market."
