Maybe because I came with a light heart after the CSAT ended, the Christmas tree looked pretty. I think I can change my profile pic (KakaoTalk profile photo) today.
At around 6 p.m. on the 24th, at Simmons Terrace, a high school student, Kim Yun-ju, 19, said, "As soon as I arrived, I posted the photo I took with my mom, grandmother, and grandfather to my Instagram story."
According to related industries on the 25th, Simmons Terrace is a multi-cultural space by the bed brand Simmons. Every year at the end of the year, it showcases a Christmas tree and illuminations, making it a local landmark and a so-called "proof shot hot place (photo spot for proof shots)."
Marking the 7th anniversary of its opening, the concept at Simmons Terrace this year is "Christmas Monster Invasion." It runs through the 28th of next month. It strengthened storytelling with a universe in which "Baco," "Bobo," "Fizzy," and "Popo," monster party planners who made an emergency landing at Simmons Terrace, turned the place into a winter night festival.
In the central garden stood an 8-meter-tall Christmas tree decorated with tens of thousands of colored bulbs and ornaments, along with six small trees. In line with the universe, an installation evoking a crash-landed UFO was set up in the garden. The interior of Simmons Terrace was arranged to showcase at a glance the brand's roots in "American sensibility" and its main product, beds. It recreated retro-style objets and a basketball court often seen in American teen movies.
Next to Simmons Terrace is Simmons Factoryum, a space that brings together the brand's technology and production lines. It operates a sleep science research and development (R&D) center and production lines together. In particular, an average of 600 to 700 mattresses are produced here each day and supplied nationwide. Some areas are open to general visitors who apply for a tour.
At the R&D center, the following are conducted: the "rolling tester," in which a hexagonal roller weighing up to 140 kilograms rolls over a mattress more than 100,000 times to check its recovery resilience; the "drop impact tester," in which a bowling ball is dropped onto a mattress with bowling pins standing on it to test steady stability without shaking; and "radon and thoron measurement," which inspects emissions of radon and thoron, both class 1 carcinogens, from raw materials to finished goods.
Kim Ji-hye, a curator on the Simmons cultural business team, said, "Simmons is the only one in the industry to obtain 'radon safety certification' for all products from the Korea Standards Association (KSA), the nation's official radon safety certification body," and added, "In addition to radon and thoron safety certification, we let consumers experience three safety keywords, including eco-friendly certification and flame-retardant mattresses, which is also boosting brand trust."
The Christmas tree and illuminations showcased by Simmons also aim to coexist with the local community based on the concept of ESG (environmental, social, and governance). Each year, Simmons holds a direct-trade marketplace for local agricultural specialties, the Farmers Market, together with local farms. Over 10 days from April to May, 11,000 people visited the event, generating sales of 60 million won. During last year's Christmas season, more than 100,000 people visited Simmons Terrace, and nearby commercial district sales reportedly rose more than 30%.
A Simmons official said, "As the Christmas and year-end season kicks into full gear, we expect more people to flock here," and added, "Rather than focusing on direct sales from visitors, we will work to plant positive memories of the brand and steadily seek coexistence with local farms to build a regional circulation structure."
