E-Land Group said in connection with the recent fire at the Cheonan fashion logistics center, "Most of the blaze has been brought under control, and we are preparing alternative logistics to respond in order to minimize inconvenience to customers."
E-Land Group said on the 17th, "Fortunately, there were no casualties, but there was damage including the loss of the building and logistics infrastructure, as well as E-Land World's carried-over apparel inventory and fall-winter (FW) products in our possession," and said this accordingly.
E-Land Group said, "We are restoring operations by leasing logistics infrastructure from group affiliates, including the nearby E-Land Retail logistics center in (Cheonan), as well as in Bupyeong and Osan, and by utilizing external logistics infrastructure."
It added, "Most of the new winter items have already been shipped to stores nationwide, and for new products, we have secured a certain amount of port volume, so we can respond," and "We are responding companywide to minimize any business disruption, including by speeding up production at our own factories."
It continued, "Some orders from customers who purchased online have been canceled, and for orders that require additional cancellation, we will provide individual guidance through the customer center," adding, "Additionally, products that can be shipped through stores and other logistics infrastructure will begin shipping sequentially starting today."
According to fire authorities, at around 6 a.m. on the 15th, a fire broke out at the E-Land Group logistics center in Yongjeong-ri, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, and firefighting operations have continued for a third day. The initial ignition point is known to be near the third and fourth floors inside the logistics center, and an investigation into the exact cause of the fire is underway.
The logistics center has a total floor area of 193,210 square meters (about 58,000 pyeong), spanning from one basement level to four floors above ground, and was completed in Jul. 2014 as the largest in Asia. It has operated mainly handling products from about 10 fashion brands, including New Balance and SPAO, and more recently carried out large-scale investments by introducing advanced facilities, artificial intelligence (AI), and robots.
