Musinsa said on the 11th that it has appointed Ikeda Mike as the new head of its Japan unit, MUSINSA JAPAN. Established in 2021, MUSINSA JAPAN supports the entry of "K-fashion" brands into Japan across both online and offline channels in the local market.
Ikeda is a Veteran who has worked in Japan's fashion industry for more than 25 years. He began his career in 1999 as a merchandise manager at Nike Japan and later served as brand director at Levi's Japan. He also headed the Japan operations at Oakley Japan, BOSE Japan, and Cath Kidston Japan.
Ikeda led product planning and business development at multiple global brands, and from 2020 through the first half of this year served as head of Dr. Martens Japan.
With this appointment, Musinsa plans to expand the K-fashion boom in the Japanese market. With Ikeda joining, MUSINSA JAPAN expects to further enhance expertise and efficiency in introducing and distributing K-fashion in Japan.
In particular, drawing on business capabilities built across product development, supply chain management, and offline store operations, Ikeda is expected to strengthen local brand partnerships and accelerate the expansion of offline channels. Currently, Musinsa directly introduces about 3,000 brands to Japanese customers online through the "Musinsa Global Store."
In the third quarter of this year (July–September), the transaction amount in Japan on the Musinsa Global Store rose 120% from a year earlier, and in October it increased more than fivefold from a year earlier. On the 6th, Musinsa officially opened a Musinsa shop within Japan's fashion e-commerce platform ZOZOTOWN. Domestic fashion brands can now sell products through ZOZOTOWN simply by joining the Musinsa Store.
A Musinsa official said, "Japan is a key region that plays a central role in Musinsa's global market expansion strategy," adding, "With the addition of Ikeda Mike, who knows the local market well, we will further accelerate the expansion of Japanese distribution networks for domestic designer brands and the growth of our online and offline businesses."
