OTOKI said on the 27th that it plans to launch four varieties of bungeoppang (BUNG O PPANG) in the United States in December. The products were planned to introduce bungeoppang, a representative Korean street snack, in earnest to the U.S. market as the K-food boom spreads.
The new bungeoppang lineup includes custard cream, matcha, and sweet potato flavors, in addition to the original red bean, reflecting local tastes and trends. OTOKI said it enhanced the products with a smooth filling to capture bungeoppang's signature contrast of crispy outside and moist inside, improving overall quality.
In particular, the matcha flavor was reinterpreted as a pastry instead of a beverage for added freshness. Matcha, noted among U.S. millennials and young consumers as a "healthy premium dessert," has mostly been enjoyed as drinks like lattes; by contrast, this offers a new taste and texture not experienced before, and is expected to draw interest from the so-called "foodie" crowd who prefer trendy desserts, according to OTOKI.
Alongside bungeoppang, OTOKI plans to introduce a lineup of K street foods such as tteokbokki and deep-fried seaweed rolls to showcase new flavors and fun of K-food in global markets. A OTOKI official said, "This bungeoppang lineup will greatly help raise the recognition and standing of K-food in the local market."
