Convenience store GS25 said on the 17th that the Perilla oil aged-kimchi tuna gimbap, launched in partnership with Jongga, the kimchi brand of Daesang, surpassed cumulative sales of 1.2 million units in two months after release to take the No. 1 spot in the gimbap category.
The Perilla oil aged-kimchi tuna gimbap, which GS25 launched 7월, is a product that enhances nuttiness and umami by adding a perilla oil blend developed by GS Retail food researchers to Jongga's stir-fried baek kimchi. The price is 3,400 won.
The product is also proving popular with foreigners. An analysis of 37 stores with high proportions of visits by foreign tourists, including Myeong-dong, Hongdae, and Seongsu, showed that sales of the Perilla oil aged-kimchi tuna gimbap in the most recent week (Oct. 1–7) rose 36.7% compared with the first week after launch (Jul. 23–29).
Buoyed by this popularity, GS25 is expanding its lineup of ready-to-eat meals using Jongga kimchi. Earlier in 7월, it introduced ▲ Perilla oil aged-kimchi tuna gimbap (3,400 won) ▲ Kimchi pork bulgogi triangle gimbap (1,300 won), and this month it will sequentially roll out ▲ Perilla oil aged-kimchi tuna triangle gimbap (1,700 won) ▲ Thin-sliced pork belly diced-radish kimchi fried rice (1,900 won) ▲ Aged-kimchi thin-sliced pork belly gimbap (3,500 won).
Ahn Jin-ung, GS Retail FF Team manager, said, "As the popularity of K food grows, we will capture the tastes of both domestic and foreign customers with a diverse range of ready-to-eat meals using kimchi."
