Shinsegae Group affiliate e-commerce platform Gmarket said on the 29th that it will partner with Southeast Asian e-commerce company "Lazada" (LAZADA) to expand overseas sales channels.
The company said the partnership is the first collaborative outcome of the joint venture (JV) created by Shinsegae Group and Alibaba International.
Lazada, one of Alibaba's global affiliates, is an e-commerce platform headquartered in Singapore with about 160 million customers across Southeast Asia.
Through the partnership, Gmarket will link about 20 million products to Lazada and sell them to local customers. With this, sellers on Gmarket will be able to create new opportunities to secure sales based on local customer bases in five countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Sellers can link products to Lazada by completing a simple consent process on Gmarket's sales management site (ESM PLUS). The overall processes required for sales—product management, orders, and shipping—are the same as domestic sales methods.
Logistics services have also been streamlined. Sellers only need to ship sold products to Lazada's logistics center in Incheon. Gmarket and Lazada, the platforms, will then jointly handle international shipping and customer service.
Gmarket plans to expand its sales channels to more than 200 countries where Alibaba operates, including Europe, South Asia, South America, and the United States.
