Coupang's logistics subsidiary Coupang Logistics Services (CLS) said on the 25th that it signed an investment agreement with Daegu Metropolitan City to build a new logistics center at Daegu City Hall on the 24th.
The Daegu smart logistics center is set to be built with a total floor area of 75,000㎡ (about 22,700 pyeong), with a total investment of 61.8 billion won. Once completed, it is expected to create about 800 new jobs. CLS plans to prioritize Daegu residents in hiring to maximize local job creation.
The center will operate as a complex infrastructure that goes beyond a simple warehouse to also function as a delivery hub. By using an AI-based demand forecasting system to place and manage high-demand products closer to customers, it aims to expand the Daegu–North Gyeongsang "Rocket Delivery" coverage area and improve delivery speed.
Coupang believes the investment will also contribute to mutual growth with the local business community. Through its nationwide logistics network, products from local small and midsize enterprises and producers can be distributed more easily to consumers nationwide, which could lead to distribution expense reductions and increased sales.
CLS CEO Hong Yong-jun said, "We are pleased that this investment in the Daegu smart logistics center will allow us to contribute to the Daegu–North Gyeongsang regional economy and provide better service to customers," adding, "We will continue to do our best to grow together with local small business owners through close cooperation with Daegu City."
