GS Retail said on the 17th that the monthly active users (MAU) of its own mobile app "Woori Neighborhood GS" reached 4.29 million last month. This is the highest among offline retail apps in the same industry.
The Woori Neighborhood GS app was launched in Oct. 2022. Since then, users have continued to increase, recording an MAU of 3.89 million at the end of last year and surpassing 4.29 million last month.
GS Retail cited a surge in demand for quick commerce (fast delivery) as the driver of its own app's growth. From January to August this year, nationwide quick commerce (delivery and pickup) sales at GS25 and GS The Fresh, including the Woori Neighborhood GS app, rose 72.5% from a year earlier. GS Retail said, "In the first half, the extended heat and various discount events created synergies that increased sales of frozen treats and beverages, which played a key role in driving quick commerce growth."
The alcohol category also propelled quick commerce growth. Last month, alcohol sales at GS The Fresh increased 31.9% from the previous month. Products introduced in the first half, such as "Guinness Nitro Surge," "Seonyang Oak Soju," and "Anh Sung-jae Sauvignon Blanc Highball," were successive hits and led the sales increase.
On the alcohol smart-order platform "Wine 25 Plus," sake and baijiu proved popular and drew in new customers. In the first half, sales of the two items rose 250.1% from a year earlier.
Jeon Jin-hyeok, GS Retail O4O head, said, "We will continue to strengthen GS Retail's unique mobile app competitiveness based on differentiated products and a variety of customer benefits."
