According to HwaGang Liquor, the Purcari winery was designated in 1827 by Russian Emperor Nicholas I as Moldova's first special winery. "Negru de Purcari," which won a gold medal at the 1878 Paris World's Fair, was loved across three generations—Queen Victoria, George V and Elizabeth II—and was called the "wine of the British royal family." It was also introduced in the Japanese manga "Drops of God" as "a hidden masterpiece loved by the British royal family."
The village of Purcari is located between the Dniester River and the Black Sea, with fertile chernozem soil extending from Ukraine and climate conditions similar to Bordeaux. Thanks to this, at the 19th-century Paris Expo, experts recognized its quality to the point that during blind tastings they mistook it for Bordeaux wine.
