Shinsegae Department Store said on the 11th that it will further strengthen its premium in-house holiday gift set "5 Star" lineup for this year's Chuseok.
5 Star is a high-end gift set created with Shinsegae buyers directly involved from the sourcing stage through cultivation and production management to product planning. Only products that pass internal standards are given the "5 Star" logo. For example, apples are carefully selected only if they are large fruit with a sugar content of 15 Brix or higher, uniform in size and shape, and evenly red in color. For Hanwoo beef, only the top tier corresponding to marbling scores of 8 to 9 is used from 1++ grade cows within four births.
Shinsegae Department Store is having buyers participate directly in auctions, diversifying sourcing regions, and developing new products to stably secure top-grade raw ingredients. Since 2021, it has steadily taken part in auctions at the Eumseong public wholesale market, the largest Hanwoo auction market in Korea, to build out its "Shinsegae luxury Hanwoo" lineup.
The product features excellent fat distribution, delivering a smoother and cleaner flavor than typical premium Hanwoo. Representative items include "Luxury Hanwoo special selection" (1.4 million won), which contains popular cuts such as sirloin, tenderloin, and chuck flap tail, and "Luxury palate Hanwoo" (900,000 won), centered on specialty cuts such as outside skirt and hanging tender.
In fresh produce, sourcing regions have expanded to include Mungyeong and Cheongsong apples and Icheon pears, and the "Luxury apple and pear mixed set" (190,000–210,000 won) also includes high-sugar (18 Brix or higher) apple mangoes that previously were seen only in hampers.
In seafood, the "Luxury wild king abalone set" (1.2 million won) is being introduced for the first time this year. It is composed of nine live abalones selected only from large specimens grown for more than 10 years in pristine waters, weighing four to five per kilogram.
