KOOKSOONDANG BREWERY said on the 11th that "Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli" was selected as an Excellent Rice Plus product at the "2025 Rice-Processed Foods Evaluation" and received the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award.
The Rice-Processed Foods Evaluation is hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Rice Processed Foods Association. It is carried out to promote quality improvement and competitiveness of rice-processed foods and to select and foster flagship brands to invigorate the rice-processed foods industry. Winners are chosen through expert and consumer evaluations and on-site hygiene assessments, and the awards ceremony was held on the 10th at the Yongsan Peace & Park Convention.
Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli uses 100% domestically grown rice and received high marks for popularity, innovation, and taste. With average monthly sales of more than 1 million bottles and annual sales of more than 10 billion won, it contributes to consumption of domestically grown rice.
Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli was launched in 1996 based on the technology of KOOKSOONDANG BREWERY's "Bio Tak," Korea's first canned makgeolli released in 1993. After the canned product was released, a PET bottle version was also introduced, widening consumer choice. The canned product, with its portability and small size, fits the recent alcohol trends of drinking at home and drinking alone, expanding makgeolli's TPO and contributing to the expansion of sales channels.
In addition, flavor makgeolli such as "Kooksoondang Rice Banana," released based on "Kooksoondang Rice Makgeolli," and collaboration products such as "Kooksoondang Babambabam" have also been introduced. These products are also being exported overseas.
