KT&G announced on the 5th that it will provide 100 million won in donations to help the Gangneung area in Gangwon Province, which is experiencing severe drought damage.
The donation will be used for recovery efforts for farms and residents in Gangneung who are struggling with livelihoods and living conditions due to the drought. The 100 million won in donations, delivered through the Korean Red Cross, will be utilized for disaster support, including supplying over 200,000 bottles of drinking water.
The donation was created from the 'Imagination Fund,' which is a voluntary contribution fund made by KT&G employees. The Imagination Fund, which launched in 2011, is a corporate social contribution fund where employees voluntarily donate a certain amount of their salaries each month, and the company matches that amount in a matching grant format.
Shim Young-a, head of KT&G's ESG Management Office, said, "I hope for a swift normalization of the affected area and a quick return to daily life for the residents," and noted, "We will do our best to provide practical help along with continued attention to drought-affected areas."
