Coupang announced on the 2nd that it will provide 200,000 bottles of 2-liter (L) water to help citizens of Gangneung who are suffering from drought through the Korean Red Cross.
The donated water is expected to be delivered sequentially over two days until the 3rd to vulnerable groups, residents of Gangneung, and small business owners who are experiencing inconveniences due to drought damage through the Korean Red Cross.
Coupang has continued its support activities for local residents and communities during disasters. In March, it provided over 35,000 relief items, including daily necessities and snacks, to areas affected by wildfires in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province. In July, it also delivered over 40,000 relief items, including daily necessities, hygiene products, and clothing to areas affected by heavy rainfall.
Gangneung Mayor Kim Hong-kyu said, "I thank Coupang for donating water to help our citizens in Gangneung who are suffering from drought. The city of Gangneung will also do its best, united in our hearts, to overcome this crisis."
A Coupang CSR official said, "We hope this support can be of some help to the citizens of Gangneung suffering from drought damage, and we will actively consider additional support measures depending on the situation."
