OURHOME announced on the 28th that it has developed two eco-friendly products to strengthen its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management by expanding the use of eco-friendly products. The products are biodegradable shopping bags and recyclable polyethylene (PE) garbage bags. OURHOME plans to introduce these products at group meal service locations and dining establishments nationwide.
According to OURHOME, the biodegradable shopping bags naturally decompose even at room temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. This compensates for the limitations of currently widely used biodegradable materials (PLA, polylactic acid), which decompose only under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. Made from food waste materials like corn and potatoes, the bags have a natural beige color different from regular plastic bags and feature a distinctive nutty aroma from the raw materials. They also received the internationally recognized European biodegradable certification (TUV OK Compost HOME).
The recyclable PE garbage bags developed together also use recyclable PE, made from waste plastic materials instead of conventional non-recyclable raw materials, raising the ratio of recycled materials to 80%. This material is produced by collecting discarded PE products, undergoing a recycling process, and being re-resourced, which is said to contribute to reducing single-use plastic waste and carbon emissions, according to OURHOME.
A representative from OURHOME noted, "We are developing various products and solutions to practice ESG management and spread eco-friendly values," and added, "We will continue to make efforts to reduce single-use items and promote recycling at business sites."
