The department store industry is expanding the volume of gift set pre-orders by 10-20% compared to last year ahead of this year's Chuseok. This is due to the expectation that more consumers will choose to send gifts in advance and travel instead of returning home during the long holiday.
According to the retail industry on the 24th, Shinsegae Department Store will start pre-sales on the 26th of this month, up to three days ahead of its competitors.
The number of items prepared is up to twice that of competitors, and the discount rate reaches up to 60%. The pre-sale will run until the 14th of next month, covering over 300 types, including Korean beef (5-10%), dried yellow corvina (29%), fresh produce (10%), wine (60%), and health foods (55%).
Shinsegae noted, "This year we will also introduce new gift sets prepared at the food hall 'House of Shinsegae' and 'Dessert Salon.'"
Hyundai Department Store will begin pre-sales in nationwide stores from the 27th to the 15th of next month. They have prepared a total of over 220 types of gift sets, which will be offered at prices discounted by up to 30%. A representative from Hyundai Department Store stated, "We plan to ensure there are no disruptions in delivery by managing logistics thoroughly in line with the late Chuseok and long holiday."
Lotte Department Store will conduct pre-sales for over 170 items from the 29th to the 14th of next month. The discount rate is up to 50%. The pre-sale period is three days shorter compared to Shinsegae and Hyundai.
