As the fishing ban on flower crabs along the west coast is lifted, three major supermarkets and Coupang have entered a competition for discounts on "fresh flower crabs."
Coupang announced on the 24th that it will hold a "fall flower crab promotion" through Rocket Fresh until the 1st of next month. With card discounts applied, from the 22nd to the 24th, the price of live flower crabs will be 760 won per 100g, the same as the lowest price offered by Emart among major supermarkets. From the 25th to the 1st of next month, it will be sold for 990 won per 100g.
Following last year's post-ban sales success with direct shipping promotions, Coupang has doubled its purchase volume this year and expanded its direct shipping sources to five locations: Sinjindo, Gyeokpo, Beopseongpo, Shinan, and Jindo. Representative products include ▲ Fishwon's direct shipping fresh flower crabs, 3 kg ▲ West Coast premium fresh flower crabs, 1 kg ▲ Eobusim West Coast fresh flower crabs, 2 kg, among others. A Coupang official noted, "We expect the benefits for consumers and the expansion of market access for local fishermen to lead to a win-win effect."
The three major supermarkets have also joined the competition. Emart will sell flower crabs for 760 won per 100g for three days until the 24th, targeting customers accumulating Shinsegae Points. The original promotional price was 788 won, but it was reduced due to intensified competition. Homeplus will sell live flower crabs (chilled flower crabs) for 1,090 won per 100g until the 27th when paid with a promotional card, and online purchases from the 25th to the 27th will be available for 905 won. Lotte Mart will offer live flower crabs for 992 won per 100g during the same period.
