Dongwon Group announced on the 14th that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Le Khai Hoan, visited Dongwon Global Terminal Busan (hereafter DGT) in Busan and held discussions with Chairman Kim Nam-jung.
General Secretary Le is regarded as the 'number one figure in the power hierarchy of Vietnam.' He was unanimously elected as the country's highest leader by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam last August. The General Secretary and his delegation, who visited Korea to enhance bilateral friendship and economic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam, observed the DGT, which operates fully automated.
They are said to have visited DGT to benchmark its core technological capabilities as the first fully automated smart port built in Korea, along with its advanced operational know-how. The Vietnamese government considers the container port industry a key driver of national economic growth.
Dongwon Group has a deep connection with Vietnam. Since 2015, it has operated two subsidiaries in the country, and Dongwon F&B (food) and Dongwon Systems (packaging materials) have been increasing their exports annually.
In particular, Dongwon Group's global subsidiaries TTP (Tan Tien Packaging) and MVP (Minh Viet Packaging) supply packaging materials such as flexible packaging and PET to Masan Group, the largest comprehensive food corporation in Vietnam. The two subsidiaries, which have production facilities in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, are strengthening their exports not only to Vietnam but also to North American markets, including the United States and Canada. They also supply packaging materials to multinational corporations such as Unilever.
A representative of Dongwon Group noted, "We will strengthen cooperation and enhance friendship with Vietnam, a global marine and fisheries powerhouse, to grow exports and local businesses simultaneously," adding, "We plan to fulfill our role as private diplomats through economic growth, including ongoing investment expansion."
