CJ CheilJedang announced on the 11th that it will launch a low-sugar product line, 'Sugar Light,' consisting of 9 items, which has significantly reduced sugar content compared to existing products. This appears to be a move to actively expand into the low-sugar market in line with the growing wellness trend.
Earlier this month, CJ CheilJedang launched three varieties of 'Baeksul Sugar Light Low-Sugar Dressing.' This month and next month, it plans to introduce three varieties of low-sugar oyster sauce and low-sugar seasoning under the Baeksul brand, as well as three varieties of low-sugar condiments under the Haechandle brand.
'Sugar Light' incorporates a 'low-sugar modulation' technology that CJ CheilJedang secured through over a year of research and development (R&D). It analyzed the characteristics of various alternative sugars, such as allulose and steviol glycosides, which have different flavor intensities and timing of flavor release, to design each product with the optimal combination of sweet ingredients.
According to CJ CheilJedang, this technology ensures that consumers can experience a rich and full taste until the last moment. Unlike other low-sugar products in beverages and confectionery, dressings, sauces, and condiments have various materials and supplies, which can raise the possibility of microbial growth, and thus, distribution stability was also considered.
CJ CheilJedang has appointed Seulgi, a member of the girl group Red Velvet, as the model to promote the Sugar Light brand. Seulgi has previously garnered attention by sharing delicious diet and management tips. The brand's pursuit of a 'tasty and healthy lifestyle' aligns well with her image, and it is expected to foster active communication with consumers.
A representative from CJ CheilJedang noted, 'We are receiving consumer love, recording a high market share in categories such as sauces, seasonings, and condiments,' and added, 'As CJ enters the low-sugar sauce and condiment market, we expect it to create a significant impact and transformation in the market.'
