Baemin's logistics service dedicated to delivery was sponsored by the Elegant Youths, who announced on the 5th that they supported a policy discussion meeting aimed at creating a safe delivery environment. This is to strengthen the safety of riders.
According to the Elegant Youths, the discussion meeting was held the previous day at the Royal Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. The Korea Platform Freelancer Labor Union hosted the event, and the 'Rider Safety Management Committee' launched by the Elegant Youths participated as a sponsoring organization.
This event was prepared to publicize the safety and health issues of delivery riders and to seek effective alternatives through collaboration among academia, labor, policy institutions, and private platforms. The attendees of the discussion meeting agreed that simply relying on safety education or individual caution is insufficient for preventing occupational accidents among riders, emphasizing the need for multi-ministerial linkage and public-private cooperation in areas such as traffic, labor, and health.
In the first part, Professor Seo Yong-yoon of Dongguk University's Department of Industrial Systems Engineering presented on 'Analyzing Factors Influencing Occupational Accidents in the Rider Industry.' He analyzed the factors affecting accident occurrence based on actual accident data and approval cases for care, examining road conditions, weather, time of day, age, and other elements.
In the second part, Professor Yoon Jin-ha of Yonsei University's Graduate School of Public Health presented on 'Health Status of Outdoor Mobile Workers.' Professor Yoon pointed out that the prevalence of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes is high among riders, while their rate of regular health check-ups is low, indicating that institutional improvements are necessary.
A representative from the Elegant Youths stated, "We will continuously prepare effective support measures to ensure that our partner riders can work in a safer and healthier environment."
