COSMAX announced on the 31st that on the 30th, Shin Jun-soo, Director General of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's Bio-Pharmaceuticals Bureau, visited its headquarters in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, to discuss strategies for activating K-beauty globally using AI (artificial intelligence).
On that day, Director General Shin Jun-soo and other officials from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety toured COSMAX's R&I (Research & Innovation) Center, the largest research facility among domestic cosmetics manufacturers, and examined key technologies driving K-beauty.
The advances in COSMAX's cosmetics manufacturing and development using AI were also a major point of interest that day. As K-beauty gained global attention, COSMAX has focused on AI development to meet the increasing worldwide demand. In 2021, it established the COSMAX AI (CAI) research institute and has been promoting digital transformation (DX) and AI development. Subsequently, COSMAX introduced a 'smart color matching AI system' that adjusts the shades of color cosmetics from the raw material stage, targeting the makeup market in multi-ethnic countries.
To target the global customized cosmetics market, COSMAX is enhancing its robot-based, multi-variety small-batch production system along with AI-based automated prescriptions. To achieve this, COSMAX acquired the beauty tech startup ArtLab last year. ArtLab possesses various AI technologies, including 'mobile-based skin analysis AI technology' and 'cosmetic consulting AI chatbot technology based on dermatological knowledge.'
On that day, COSMAX and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety also discussed industry strategies regarding the expansion of K-beauty exports and the transformation due to AI, as well as responses to domestic and foreign regulations. COSMAX conveyed its opinions on regulatory changes that would allow for swift responses to the rapidly changing trends in the global cosmetics market. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety also promised to establish a collaborative network through expanded exchanges with foreign authorities.
An official from COSMAX noted, "We are transitioning to an efficient multi-variety small-batch production system that develops over 8,000 new products each year through over 4,500 global clients, and our future plan is to automate cosmetics formulation and production using AI and connect it with robotic automated production. This aims to support our clients in product development, production, quality, and regulatory compliance, contributing to the globalization of K-beauty through an all-around system."
