Emart, Lotte Mart, and Homeplus have entered into a price war focusing on popular products such as chicken and pork belly ahead of the summer peak season.

Lotte Mart ignited the chicken competition by selling "Big Chicken" for 5,000 won starting from the 26th of last month. This is the same price as in 2010. They are also offering discounts for pork belly, eel, and peaches at similar levels to their competitors.
Homeplus will sell "Confident Chicken" for 3,990 won from the 3rd to the 6th to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of its launch of "Old-fashioned Fried Chicken." The Canadian pork belly will be offered at 890 won per 100g, while domestic pork belly will be sold for 1,245 won.
In addition, the three companies are conducting aggressive promotions such as half-price discounts on various items including fruits, seafood, and daily necessities. The retail industry expects that this competition will have a positive impact on stabilizing prices.
