Amorepacific Corporation announced on the 10th that it selected researchers for the 'Jangwon (粧源) Humanities Scholar Program 5th term' in 2025 and held a research grant certificate presentation ceremony at its headquarters.
The selected researchers are Jin Kim (Ph.D. in history from Renmin University of China), Hyungjin Kim (Ph.D. in Japanese history from the University of Tokyo), Seongjin Shin (Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities), and Jinhyuk Jeong (Ph.D. in late Joseon history from Yonsei University). They have been evaluated as having high potential contributions to academia by presenting original and new perspectives in their respective research fields. The foundation plans to provide the researchers with 4 million won in research funding each month for the next four years.
The Jangwon (粧源) Humanities Scholar Support Project is an initiative to honor the late founder of Amorepacific Corporation and the foundation, Seonghwan Seo, who emphasized the importance of supporting basic academic disciplines and nurturing talent. Launched in 2020, it aims to create a sustainable research ecosystem in the field of humanities and enhance the self-sufficiency of individual researchers. This year, applications began in February, resulting in over 80 submissions, with four finalists selected through document review and interviews.
Chair of the judging panel, Professor Seokjae Lee of Seoul National University, noted, 'We will provide researchers with a stable research environment to build their own research foundations and encourage socially meaningful research to continue.' He also mentioned, 'The foundation is expected to actively support to play a leading role in establishing a stable ecosystem for pure basic academic disciplines.'
