GS Retail announced on the 3rd that its convenience store GS25 is launching the 'Hyejabaekmi rice' and expanding its ultra-low-cost private brand (PB) product lineup.
The capacity of Hyejabaekmi rice is 210g, and the price is 1,000 won per unit. This is the lowest price in the industry. It can be purchased for more than 52% (1,100 won) cheaper compared to mega brand instant rice of the same capacity.
GS25 set the selling price at 1,000 won and has pursued a strategy of reverse development. GS25 utilized 100% domestically sourced rice selected through a screening process and enhanced quality through optimal moisture blending processes.
In a comparison tasting with market products conducted prior to the launch, Hyejabaekmi rice achieved first place for 10 consecutive times. GS25 expects Hyejabaekmi rice to grow into a key product with rapidly increasing demand for 'under 1,000 won'.
In fact, sales of products sold by GS25 for under 1,000 won over the past three years have been increasing annually: 46.5% in 2024 (compared to the previous year), 32.2% in 2023, and 28.8% in 2022.
