Coupang announced on the 26th that it will transition from a dual representative system with 강한승 (Kang Han-seung) and 박대준 (Park Dae-jun) to a sole representation by 박대준. Accordingly, Park will oversee the entire management of Coupang's Korean subsidiary and will also serve as the chairperson of the board.
Former representative 강한승 (Kang Han-seung), who has been the dual representative for the management institutional sector, will move to Coupang Inc. to oversee business development in North America.
박대준 (Park Dae-jun) graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Hongik University and joined Coupang in 2012 as the Deputy Minister in charge of policy after working at LG Electronics and Naver (NAVER). He is considered one of the longest-serving executives.
He served as Coupang's vice president in charge of policy in 2019 and has been the head of Coupang's new business institutional sector since 2020. He has led Coupang's new business and regional infrastructure development, expanding nationwide Rocket Delivery and creating large-scale jobs based on AI logistics innovation.
Park has also led various projects to expand sales pathways for small and medium-sized enterprises, including the permanent planning office "Good Store," launched in collaboration with several local governments and government agencies. He has been recognized for his proactive efforts to develop digital pathways for small businesses, including local farmers. Additionally, he has driven customer experience innovation while leading new businesses like Coupang Eats and Coupang Play.
Coupang is accelerating the implementation of its investment plan worth 3 trillion won, which involves building logistics facilities such as fulfillment centers (FC) in nine regions nationwide and directly hiring more than 10,000 people by the end of this year.
While Chinese companies like Ali, Temu, and JD.com are expanding their business in Korea, Park is expected to focus on Coupang's AI and logistics automation. A Coupang official noted, "Through this appointment, we plan to further strengthen the nationwide expansion of AI logistics innovation-based 쿠세권 (Coupang + station zone) and sales pathways for small businesses."
Former representative 강한승 (Kang Han-seung), who has been responsible for Coupang's management institutional sector, will be in charge of overall business development in North America and support for overseas operations. Coupang Inc., Coupang's parent company and North American subsidiary, is accelerating global market expansion based on its success in the Korean market, including Taiwan's Rocket Delivery and luxury e-commerce company Farfetch.
Kang is the son of former lawmaker 강신옥 (Kang Shin-ok) and has a background as a judge. After serving as the legal secretary at the Blue House, he has been working as a lawyer since 2013 and formed a connection with Coupang while handling lawsuits related to Rocket Delivery.
He was appointed as one of the four representatives on November 4th, 2020. Since 2021, he has served as one of two dual representatives, and he was reappointed in November 2023. The representative term is three years.
