Chungju City received the award in the national bioindustry leading city institutional sector at the '2025 Most Loved Brand Awards in Korea.'
Chungju has been recognized for its efforts to promote the bioindustry as a major new growth engine, including the development of the Chungju Biohealth National Industrial Complex, expansion of bio research infrastructure, and support for corporations.
The Chungju Biohealth National Industrial Complex is set to be developed over an area of 2.24 million square meters in the Bon-ri and Wan-o-ri areas of Dae-so-won. With a total project cost of 817.1 billion won, the completion is targeted for 2029. Chungju plans to cultivate this complex into a healthcare specialized cluster integrating biotechnology (BT) and information technology (IT).
Additionally, Chungju is in the process of establishing a bio-material testing and evaluation center. The plan is to complete it by 2026, supporting performance and testing evaluations for corporations developing bio products based on drug delivery technology.
Moreover, there are plans to attract bio, IT, and healthcare corporations to the Chungju Knowledge Industry Complex, scheduled for completion this year. Also, in collaboration with local universities such as Konkuk University (Glocal Campus) and the National Korea Transportation University, a shared bio equipment room will be established within the Knowledge Industry Complex to support the use of advanced equipment by corporations and strengthen research cooperation between corporations and universities.
Chungju Mayor Jo Gil-hyung said, "I will do my best in infrastructure investment and support for corporations to ensure the successful establishment of the Biohealth National Industrial Complex and the leading of the national bioindustry."
