The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 16th that Han Yong-ho, former Director of the Monitoring Bureau for Corporations at the Fair Trade Commission, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Consumer Dispute Mediation Committee.
The Chairperson of the Consumer Dispute Mediation Committee is nominated by the head of the consumer agency and appointed by the chairperson of the Fair Trade Commission. The term is three years.
The new Commissioner entered public service through the 44th National Administrative Examination and has served as the Director of the Manufacturing Industry Monitoring at the Fair Trade Commission, Director of International Cartels, Director of Market Monitoring, Director of Service Industry Monitoring, and Head of the Monitoring Bureau for Corporations. He has dealt with issues such as shipping collusion and the preferential treatment and blocking incidents involving Kakao Mobility. He also sanctioned deceptive practices against consumers related to false and exaggerated advertising of 5G speeds by the three mobile carriers and the manipulation of search rankings by Coupang.
Commissioner Han noted, "I will strive to promote amicable resolutions of disputes based on concessions and compromises between the parties and respond swiftly and effectively to collective dispute cases to achieve substantial recovery for large-scale consumer damages."
