Convenience store franchise CU announced on the 30th that it will introduce three types of meal substitute bread made using three famous sauce brands from Heinz starting on the 2nd of next month.
The product being introduced this time is a "salad bread" that includes salad toppings on morning bread. CU will launch three flavors for the salad bread using three types of Heinz sauce: fusilli ketchup, egg mustard, and tuna mayo.
CU had previously showcased the Heinz salad bread at the Shinsegae department store's Sweet Park pop-up zone. After receiving positive feedback about the product, it was made available for regular nationwide sales.
To cater to consumers looking for bread instead of rice, CU will offer a 45% discount on all products from the bakery brand "Bakehouse 405" when paid with a promotional card or Naver Pay for the entire month next month.
Kim Goni, product planner in the snack foods team at BGF Retail, noted, "According to Euromonitor, more than 1 in 8 Koreans (13%) solve a meal with bread or snacks," and added, "Since the beginning of this year, CU has been actively expanding its meal substitute bread lineup to respond to the new demand."
