Lotte Department Store announced on the 23rd that it will begin renovation work on its Nowon branch, the number one location in Seoul's northeastern commercial area, starting on the 24th.

The Nowon branch of Lotte Department Store is a store that reopened after Lotte acquired the Midopa Department Store's Sangye branch in 2002.

Since then, it has grown into a wide-area mega store that encompasses not only Nowon and Dobong districts but also Uijeongbu, Yangju, and Namyangju in the northern Gyeonggi region.

In line with this, Lotte expanded and renovated the store with a scale of 1,000 pyeong in 2012, and in 2021, established a premium living section, continuously improving the shopping environment.

In anticipation of the expected growth of the Nowon commercial area, Lotte Department Store will undergo its first-ever comprehensive renovation since its opening. The renovation area alone will cover approximately 33,000 square meters (10,000 pyeong), accounting for 80% of the total operating area.

Around 50,000 housing units in new construction projects are set to be built in Nowon District around 2030. Major large-scale development projects, including the Changdong Multiplex Transfer Center, Seoul Arena, and an advanced biomedical complex commercial cultural district, are also planned.

Additionally, population influx from the development of neighboring new cities in Uijeongbu and Namyangju is expected to further expand the underlying demand for the Nowon branch.

Accordingly, the Nowon branch plans a complete renovation, including enhancing its exterior, redefining the concepts by floor, and creating the region's largest specialized sections.

On the basement floor, the largest premium food hall in Seoul's northeastern commercial area will be showcased, and the first floor will feature a beauty specialty store covering 992 square meters (300 pyeong).

The second floor will have a K-fashion specialty store targeting the MZ generation, and the eighth floor will house a sports megastore featuring three major global sports brands.

The Nowon branch plans to reveal its exterior in the first half of next year and fully open in the second half.

Hwang Yoon-seok, the head of the Nowon branch of Lotte Department Store, said, "Through this renovation, we will solidify our position as a wide-area department store covering not only Nowon’s landmark but also northeastern Seoul and northern Gyeonggi Province."
