The first IKEA store in Seoul will open on the 17th of next month in the Godeok-dong district of Gangdong-gu.
IKEA Korea announced on the 17th that the IKEA Gangdong store, which is the company's fifth store in South Korea and the first in Seoul, will open on the 17th of next month. Since officially entering the South Korean market in 2014 with the IKEA Gwangmyeong store, IKEA Korea now operates four offline stores, including IKEA Goyang, Giheung, and Dongbusan, as well as an e-commerce platform.
Until now, IKEA has opened stores in South Korea in the form of standalone large stores known as the "blue box." However, the upcoming IKEA Gangdong store will be the first to be located within a mixed-use shopping mall, specifically on the first and second floors of the "Gangdong I-Park The River." It will have a total floor area of 58,711 square meters, including a parking lot.
In the "Gangdong I-Park The River," located in the Godeok Business Valley of Gangdong-gu, there will be not only IKEA but also a large supermarket, a movie theater, and various food and beverage stores.
Isabelle Puch, CEO of IKEA Korea, said, "The IKEA Gangdong store, as the first IKEA store in Seoul and the first of its kind for IKEA Korea, will provide an inspiring IKEA home furnishing experience close to the city, becoming a hub of our omnichannel strategy that encompasses both online and offline. I hope that many people discover the joy of decorating their homes with their unique personalities at the newly opened IKEA Gangdong store and create better lives at home."
