LOTTE Chilsung Beverage announced on the 13th that it aims to respond to the increasing uncertainty in the management environment regarding the future by making 'sustainability' based on ESG management a core strategy and developing various activities.
LOTTE Chilsung Beverage introduced its nitrogen-charged water 'Ultra-light Isis' in October last year. This bottle reduced the weight of its 500ml PET bottle from 11.6g to 9.4g, achieving an 18.9% reduction. Compared to the container weight of 22g at the time of the Isis launch in 1997, it is approximately 57% lighter.
The ultra-light Isis maintains package stability through internal pressure created by the liquid nitrogen filled inside changing to gas. It can be easily crushed for convenient recycling when disposed of.
LOTTE Chilsung Beverage expanded the sale of the ultra-light Isis, which had been sold through direct sales mall Chilsung Mall and online channels like Coupang, to offline channels such as large supermarkets starting in January. LOTTE Chilsung Beverage noted that this introduction of ultra-light packaging is expected to reduce plastic by 127 tons annually.
This year, there are plans to expand the application of nitrogen charging technology to the Isis 8.0 product. This will activate the introduction of sustainable eco-friendly technologies and plastic reduction in the bottled water market.
The beer brand Crush by LOTTE Chilsung Beverage introduced a low-weight label while changing PET bottle designs in February. The Crush transparent PET bottle complies with the voluntary agreement on improving the materials and structure of PET beer bottles set by the Ministry of Environment. It is easier to separate for recycling than colored PET bottles.
The newly introduced half-label method replaces the original full label, using an eco-friendly shrink label that floats in water during the recycling process. The Ministry of Environment granted this bottle a higher recycling grade, 'Recycling Excellence,' compared to the previous 'Recycling Usable' grade.
LOTTE Chilsung Beverage received an A+ grade in the environmental assessment of ESG criteria this year, continuing from last year. Additionally, it was selected as the top corporation in the beverage sector for the sustainability index at the '2024 Korea Sustainability Conference' organized by the Korea Standards Association, marking three consecutive years.
A representative from LOTTE Chilsung Beverage said, 'We will actively promote ESG management to create future competitiveness' and 'We will also respond to consumer expectations who love LOTTE Chilsung Beverage and fulfill our social responsibility against climate change and environmental threats to the planet.'
