Homeplus announced on the 6th that gift cards can be used normally at Homeplus stores nationwide.
Homeplus released a statement that day noting, "There have been cases where some partner companies refuse to accept gift cards," adding, "This seems to be a sensitive reaction linked to last year's e-commerce settlement issue."
According to Homeplus, the current unused balance of Homeplus gift cards is approximately 40 billion to 50 billion won. Homeplus stated that more than 96% of the total issuance of Homeplus gift cards is used only at Homeplus stores.
The proportion used at other franchise stores is less than 4%.
A Homeplus representative said, "Gift cards are general commercial liabilities, so they are not related at all to the financial liability repayment deferral measures under the corporate rehabilitation process," and added, "We plan to alleviate unnecessary concerns through sufficient communication with our partners."
