Convenience store franchise Emart24 announced on the 23rd that it will introduce individually packaged 'milk roll cake' this month.
The milk roll cake is a bread filled with cream made from condensed milk and milk powder between castella rolls. It has been adapted from a large-sized (50 pieces) product available at big supermarkets to a small (4 pieces) package for convenience stores.
According to Emart24, sales of baked goods increased by 25% in 2023 and 17% last year, continuing a two-year streak of double-digit growth.
Emart24 noted that as prices for baked goods have risen due to high exchange rates and increases in materials and supplies costs, more consumers are looking for relatively lower-priced convenience store bread.
According to Emart24, the baking products '18-layer mille-feuille bread' and 'milk bread', released last July, have also received positive responses.
Emart24 plans to continue expanding its cost-effective bread lineup, including 'chocolate cube pastry', next month.
An Emart24 official said, 'We plan to expand high-cost-effective bakery products that can only be purchased at Emart24, focusing on products priced between 1,000 won and 2,000 won.'
