Last year, sales from foreign customers who visited the offline store operated by Musinsa increased by more than six times compared to the previous year. The countries of origin of these customers exceeded 100.
On the 18th, Musinsa announced that the tax-free sales from foreign customers who visited three offline editing stores (Hongdae, Daegu, Seongsu@Daelim Warehouse) and 19 Musinsa Standard stores last year surpassed 20 billion won, an increase of more than six times compared to the previous year.
In the second half of the year, foreign sales increased by about 90% compared to the first half of last year. This is believed to be due to the popularity of the editing store 'Musinsa Store Seongsu@Daelim Warehouse,' which opened in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, in September last year, targeting foreign tourists and female customers.
The proportion of foreign customers in the total transaction amount generated at Musinsa Store Seongsu@Daelim Warehouse last year was 44%. This figure is based solely on tax-free sales, so Musinsa expects the number to be higher when including customers who did not receive a VAT refund.
Among Musinsa Standard offline stores, the combined proportion of foreign sales in Myeongdong, Seongsu, Hannam flagship, and Hongdae surpassed 70% of the total.
When classified by nationality, the number of foreign tourists increased to more than 100 countries, doubling compared to the previous year. Throughout last year, customers from 90 countries visited the Musinsa Store editing stores, and a total of 136 countries were counted for foreign tourists who purchased products at Musinsa Standard stores.
A Musinsa official noted, 'As interest in domestic fashion brands increases, foreign tourists continue to visit Musinsa's offline stores,' adding, 'We plan to introduce tax refund machines and increase foreign language guidance materials to ensure that foreign tourists can shop conveniently.'
